There will be NO VOICE allowed in class.

Benchmarks (What the students will demonstrate to show mastery of each standard):
Participate actively in discussions
Sign and understand all ASL numbers
Sign and understand 5 – 10 letter fingerspelled words
Demonstrate receptive and expressive abilities using appropriate grammar and vocabulary regarding descriptions, questions, money, clarifying information, directions, storytelling, tenses, and presentations.
Demonstrate use of non-manual signs
Demonstrate use of spatial referencing
Demonstrate understanding of some ASL idioms
Present creative pieces using ASL
Demonstrate understanding of the difference between ASL poetry and English poetry
Participate in Deaf events
CLASS EXPECTATIONS
Timely Completion of Work: Students will produce or demonstrate completed work by set deadlines. In the event that an extension is necessary, students will approach the instructor at least one class period ahead of the due date to request an extension. The teacher may use his or her own judgment in granting the extension or not, and may require a written contract signed by the student and a parent.
Class Participation: Students will come prepared to participate in all class activities, demonstrate effort, and have a positive attitude regarding class work.
General Behavior: Students will cooperate with the instructor and other students, and communicate effectively and respectfully.
